Special Education Program (SEP)

As one of the support structures at Beerwah State School, the Special Education Program exists to provide programs to students with Intellectual and Autistic Spectrum Disorders.

These students are enrolled in an age-appropriate class.  Their programs are implemented in a variety of environments - classroom, special education unit, playground, community and at home.

Each student has an IEP (Individual Education Plan) where individual goals are determined by the team of people who work with this student.  The team generally includes parents, class teachers, SEU teacher, teacher aides, therapists and advisory visiting teachers.  The Special Education Unit is located at the end of the library block.  Three full-time teachers, a full-time aide and two part time aides are currently working in the unit.

Special Education Developmental Centre (SEDC)

The SEDC commenced operation at Beerwah in Term 2 1999 with the new SEDC facilities being officially opened in 2003.  The SEDC provides intervention programs for children 0-6 years with needs arising from hearing, intellectual, physical, vision, speech-language impairment, and autistic spectrum disorders or a combination of these disabilities.  A part-time teacher and aide currently work in the SEDC.

The SEDC offers home-based/playgroup (0-3 years), Centre based programs (3-6 years).
