Beerwah State School has a Special Education Program (SEP) to provide additional support to students with intellectual, speech-language impairment and autistic spectrum disorders. Students with physical, hearing and vision impairment are supported through the SEP and are eligible for access from advisory visiting teachers.
Students are enrolled in an age-appropriate class. Their programs are implemented in a variety of environments - classroom, special education unit, playground, community and at home.
Each student supported by the SEP, has an IEP (Individual Education Plan) where individual goals are determined by the team of people who work with the student. The team includes parents, class teachers and SEP teachers and may also involve teacher aides, therapists and advisory visiting teachers. Special education teachers and teacher aides support students across the entire school site.
